When working with edit servers and frontend servers it sometimes gets tiresome swapping between different domains/hosts. It happens all the time that I get an email saying something like: Can you change ... to ... on [front-end-domain.se/some/path/]. I click the link and then I have to change the host in the URL-bar to get to the same page on the backend server (we don't have any "Edit page"-links on the frontends).

Anyhow! I've created a Firefox extension that adds a "Swap domain" item to the context menu (right-click on any page). The URL will be kept but the domain will swap to the one clicked.

I find it helpful and if you might do too you can download it at http://www.poppa.se/blog/stuff/#domain-swapper

Nice!

I see that you have redesigned FishNet too... I really like the new brighter look. Good work!

Great! I've actually been doing a lot of domain swapping lately. I'll give this a try today.

Thanks!

Ok I just tried it, but couldn't get it to work properly. Both my domain are greyed out and non-selectable under the right-click menu "Swap domain".

On what condition do you grey them out?

They are only selectable if you currently are on one of the domains. So if I have http://www.tekniskaverken.se and eros.tvdomain.local as domains they will only be active when on these domains.

Of course, I could just remove this "feature" and always have them active since the only one who's affected is the browser user and he/she probably knows what they are doing ;)

Ok, that explains it. In my case I would need freedom of choice since the servers I am switching between are on different domains.

I can easily remove limitation and always have the posts active. I'll fix that and "hojtar till" when the new version is uploaded.

Super! You could keep the grey-out on exact match that wouldn't make any difference, just for it to look nice :)

Nice!

Initializing the thing from scratch, does not reveal the submenu. You have to have some content in the string of domains before you can see the submenu. Meaning that you have to fill in stuff in about:config in order to fill in more domains.

Great work - the plug-in is really usefull!

Ah, I'll fix that too. Thank you for that!

I'm glad if the extension makes life easier for others too :)

Okey, now that bug is fixed and uploaded.

Regarding your comment at Fishnet Erik: I've begun working on a version where you can but domains in different groups.

Dunno if anybody is using this extension, but it's now updated to work with Firefox 5-6.
